Another holdover fire was discovered in the Alkali Lake fire perimeter. This latest fire is located 25 kilometres southeast of Telegraph Creek on the East side of the Stikine River and 7 km north of Buckley Lake. Holdovers are fires that smoulder underground over the winter and re-emerge when weather conditions become warmer and drier. Since mid-April, BC Wildfire Service has detected a number of these holdover fires in areas burned in the 2018 Alkali Lake Fire. Most found to date are now extinguished.

Interface: This is not an interface fire.
More information
BC Wildfire Service continues to monitor areas of concern within the 2018 Alkali Lake fire. Ground and air patrols are ongoing and a remote camera has been installed to allow for continuous remote monitoring.

BCWS expects to detect further holdover fires throughout the season. The public may see smoke rising from areas burned in 2018. Please report any sightings to 1-800-663-5555. BCWS will assess any fire activity and respond as necessary.

Further information will be released if and when the situation changes.
